The upgraded electronics of the Pierre Auger surface detector

The surface detectors of the Pierre Auger Observatory are being upgraded by adding new and replacing electronics. upgrade project, called “AugerPrime,” includes addition a small PMT to increase dynamic range particle counting, plastic scintillator above each water-Cherenkov detector improve discrimination between electromagnetic muonic shower components, radio measure emission from inclined air showers, set underground muon counters provide additional information on content in atmospheric showers. electronics, dubbed Upgraded Unified Board (UUB), is designed acquire all these improved GPS receiver, higher sampling rate, increased range, greater processing capacity, calibration monitoring systems. In following, we will describe UUB design discuss its performance as observed first data array.
